Elkhadragy, Lobna

Postdoctoral Research Associate, Dept of Radiology
Univ. Illinois at Chicago

Lobna Elkhadragy is a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Radiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Master of Science degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology at Cairo University. She received her Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences from Wright State University, OH, in December 2017, and was awarded the “Graduate Student Excellence Award” for noteworthy dissertation research. She conducted her doctoral studies in the lab of Dr. Weiwen Long in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Wright State University where her research focused on kinase signaling pathways in cancer. Her work resulted in the identification of several molecular mechanisms for the regulation of the expression and activity of Extracellular-signal regulated kinase 3 (ERK3) in cancer cells.
In her current role as a postdoctoral researcher at UIC, Dr. Elkhadragy investigates the role of frequently occurring genetic mutations on liver cancer progression and treatment response. Her current research projects aim to generate novel clinically-relevant large animal models of hepatocellular carcinoma, including porcine and rabbit models, by employing gene editing techniques. These large animal models of liver cancer will provide a valuable platform for translational testing of innovative systemic and locoregional therapies, diagnostic, and imaging modalities.
